A New Beginning

It took me 23 hours to drive to my new apartment from Nashville. Along the way I had 2 hours of sleep and a tire blowout. I'm extremely glad that part of the adventure is over.

So I've been here for 16 days. It has gone by extremely fast, so far. I began to become discouraged yesterday as I had not yet found a job. I really thought it would be a breeze once I got here, but I think that was me being a little overzealous. I actually had reached the point of calling the owner of a "skin bar" to see if he had any openings. (Would definitely make for a great addition to my story) However, I have yet to hear back from him. If he offered me a job I would take it in a second. Not for perverted reasons, but I just think it would make for some killer experiences. Fortunately, I received an offer from Verizon yesterday afternoon and it was a huge weight off my back. Thank the Lord! Now I can make some money!

It's been an interesting 2 weeks thus far. I am hoping that I will be able to put myself in positions in which I can meet a lot of people, make a lot of friends, and be able to tell a lot of good stories. So far I feel like I have accomplished that to a pretty high degree. I can honestly say I've met some pretty interesting people so far without a doubt.

Within the first couple days, I met Paulina. I saw her in Target and we struck up a convo. I think my intro was something along the lines of, "Hey, you have to be an athlete of some sort". Well, turns out I was right. She is about 6'3" and has been on some WWE wrestling shows. TNA and Tuff Enough, I think. She's definitely a cool chick. Mid 30's, never married, loves MMA. She invited me out last weekend to watch an MMA fight at a sports bar downtown with a bunch of her friends. I had a great time. Everyone in the group was cool and funny and afterward we ventured downtown to an Oktoberfest event in which they had a couple streets blocked off. We wandered around before going into this bar called the Gin Mill in which I proceeded to get hammered. I had a blast. Did some irrelevant dancing, had insignificant conversations with anyone who would listen, and wound up walking back to some guys apt before ending up at Paulina's where I passed out on the couch. All in all, a great night.

The next week went on pretty ho hum. That is until I met one of my neighbors. Friday night I was determined to get out of my apartment and do something. At this point it was looking like I was going to be hitting the bars solo. So, as I'm sitting outside on my computer looking for a place to start, one of the guys in my building walks by. I had seen him before on multiple occasions but had yet to find a time to introduce myself. So this was my best opportunity. We chatted for a bit and I told him that I was trying to find something to do for the evening. He said that he had been thinking about going out and that I was welcome to join. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have company so I accepted. Anyway, turns out that Phil is a Glendale cop who, among other things, enjoys the single life to the max. He's 40, recently divorced, has a 23 year old cocktail waitress girlfriend who is not exclusive by any means and is fine with that, and regularly visits the local titty bar where she works. So, naturally, Shotgun Willie's is our first stop on the night. Pretty much everyone there knew him and he introduced me to the bouncers and bartenders as well as the owner. For a strip club, it was a pretty classy place. A few shady people, but for the most part it was relatively civilized. Later on, he introduced me to 2 of his cop friends (Josh and Scott) who also live in my apartment.I feel pretty safe around here, not to mention that fact that it's always good to know cops. The night ended up taking us downtown on a party bus that this guy, Ralph, had. We made a pitstop at the apartment so I could give him some Hydrocodone for his back and hopefully he will remember my good deed and return the favor at some point. We ended up downtown but only stayed there for a little while before heading back to the apartment. Another good night to put in the books.

So far my life here has been like a baseball game. A lot of nothing with a few exciting moments intertwined throughout. I think that once I start working, though, the exciting times will come more often. I have yet to meet anyone that is my age. Everyone has been 35 or older. I figure that once I start getting into my age range things will certainly pick up.
